Windows Phone 7 based Nokia Phone Coming March 8 – Video Announcement

The Windows Phone 7 platform has a heap of potential but still feels like a work-in-progress project. To fix features and as well as to add them, Microsoft will liberate an update sometime in March. The fresh update would consist of new features such as Internet Explorer 9 and multitasking. Somewhat critical missing features such as copy-paste will also be added to the platform. The platform will also support CDMA, so Microsoft can expand into more markets.

Microsoft has been in the news for their new partnership with Nokia. With the two giants working together, Microsoft cannot pay for to be the weak link. Steve Ballmer showed off the new Windows Phone 7 update along with a revelation of the Internet Explorer 9 browser on it beating Safari on the Apple iPhone 4. There weren’t too many other things mentioned about the new update. That’s not a good thing allowing for that the new platform has a long way to go and critics might have quite a few things to say about it. The event even had Nokia CEO Stephen Elop come on stage and mention why the partnership with Microsoft was a move in the right direction.

With so little being added and Nokia Windows 7 phones coming soon, we’re hoping Microsoft will get its act together in time.

Nokia N9 Meego Slider & X5 Square Slider Phones

Nokia’s first MeeGo slider smartphone will be the Nokia N9? A slider phone that seems like an upgraded version of N8 with the addition of a QWERTY keyboard. This QWERTY keyboard is too flat & having a tilting display.
Another newly launched Nokia QWERTY CellPhone is the X5, a square slider phone, which has been officially announced in Singapore. The new X5 is quite different from the Nokia X5 announced in China a few months ago, and specifically targeted to young generation. Features include Symbian S60, social networking integration (Facebook, MySpace, YouTube) with notification feature, a small QVGA screen, and a 5MP camera.

The Nokia X5-01 will cost approx. $195. Coming in lots of colors including pink, blue & green.

Nokia New Touch-Screen Tablet?

Nokia, working with design and manufacturing partners on a new touch-screen tablet that could emerge as early as this fall? However, Nokia hasn’t announced any news in this regard.

TheStreet.com quotes Kumar as saying. “This is a new window, and Nokia had better be at the starting gate if and when the product category takes off.”

Nokia isn’t new to portable Internet devices, having in the last five years come out with the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet and subsequent N800, N810, and N900, not to mention the Nokia Booklet 3G Netbook.

It’s unclear whether the alleged Nokia tablet that’s getting ink Tuesday would be a follow-on to that line of devices or a more full-featured direct competitor to the iPad and HP Slate, as well as devices sure to come from the likes of Dell, Lenovo, and any of the other companies eyeing tablet territory.

Just a day, after we heard of a FCC filing for the Nokia RX-51, it seems we have a spyshot of its prototype. The RX-51 is expected to be running on Maemo5 OS and might be named ‘Rover’.

We already know that the device would be 3G enabled, a 5MP Carl Zesis camera is seen on its back. No other specifications are known at this point of time. The handset is very likely to get announced soon. We will keep you up to date on the information of this device.

After Samsung launched its toughest Mobile Samsung B2100 world’s number one phone manufacturer Nokia build a Mobile Gadget the 3720 classic with the International Protection Rating and the first number means that it’s protected against dust intrusion, while the second indicates it can survive splashing water. What about the features?

This Series 40 phone includes a 2 megapixel camera with LED flash that can double as a flashlight, a 1GB microSD card, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 2.2-inch QVGA screen. The 3720 will go on sale sometime this summer and cost about $175.

No comparison in Palm Pre, Nokia N97 & iPhone

June is really a big month for smartphones, in the past 1 week three decades biggest smartpones have launched. The Palm Pre, Apple iPhone 3GS and the Nokia N97! The Pre promises to revive Palm and put new life into the once very innovative maker, Apple unveil its fastest iTouch device ever with a major OS update and Nokia looks to create that punch in the touch screen segment with its N97.

Each one of them appeals to a different consumer and has its own strong points and ready buyers. N97, Pre and the iPhone all three have a different structure, different OS and a different market. So which one of these are you buying? Waiting for reviews comparing them? Have a look at each of them individually:

About Palm Pre: Palm ‘Pre’ is good attempt at the smartphones market, than the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G. iPhone has its own charm , it attracts people, gets usual attention and is wonderful gizmo. But the iPhone fails in some common things and that make a switch for some Blackberry user. The Pre packs in a physical QWERTY, brings in Multitasking and a great UI with multitouch. It’s the best of both worlds. Touch devices are buzzing and its a wonderful way to use any technology. Pre gets the best of touch and physical with an amazing OS/UI. , Pre is like Superman Returns.

About Nokia N97: Nokia N97 though a N-series, reminds as the communicator. An attempt made by Nokia to hit the touch market and indeed make it a iPhone killer. N97 packs in extreme features with 32GB+16GB storage, 5MP camera with DVD quality video recording and live widgets on the homescreen to present better web experience. At the similar time a sideways sliding QWERTY resembles the E90 design once open (though the mechanism is as seen in SE Xperia). Features alone did make a good gadget. Not a very little phone, bulky, studded with features and a sideways opening keyboard that is much more inconvenient to use (on the go) than a Blackberry, Palm Pre, E71 or even an iPhone. N97is a business phone made for media lovers. Mainly trying to stop the touch devices from robbery Nokia users on their side. Although the 5800 did extremely well on the price point, the N97 is Nokia’s attempt to serve the power users. All in all, the N97 retains the Nokia users … giving little competition to the iPhone.

N97: However this doesn’t fit here, as mention that Nokia makes the same error it made with the N7710. It was a full featured device in its time with FM, Touchscreen, handy design, nice camera etc. Though the processor was so slow that the usability was terrible. With 128MB ram and 434Mhz processor on a king size smartphone like the N97 makes wonder of the Symbian OS will handle the power users efficiently?

About iPhone 3GS: The 2 things redefined by Apple in the smartphones 1) Multitouch / full touch interface 2) The App Store. These were 2 masterstrokes in 2 years. Super hit, no doubt! We love the iPhone – amazing audio/video, mobile internet like never before, again a great swift OS+UI and the Apple touch in every turn. With Jail breaking and App Store apps its haven. Apple manage to present a unique powerphone feel with the iPhone, its own charm, own followers! Regular smartphone users would find it mighty difficult to adapt to Apple’s style. No Bluetooth transfer, no USB mass storage, no physical keypad/qwerty, no camera flash, proprietary chargers, cables etc. Though with an amazing OS v3.0, superb games, hardware bump, video recording and even stronger web integration with wireless goodies, Apple manages to attract its media lovers. iPhone is a beautiful and fast phone.

In a funny way, Business users would feel the iPhone as their girlfriend whereas the Blackberry as their wife! What do you guys feel about that……

People fell hassle while charging their mobile phones, particularly when they are going somewhere. Nokia think it has the solution:

A phone that charges itself. In new charging system Nokia working on allows a phone to charge itself by ambient radiowaves. The waves are all around us through TVs, radios and mobile phones themselves. The power harvested from these waves is enough to keep a phone powered in standby mode for an indefinite period.

The Oyster cards used by commuters in London apply a similar principle but harvest their power from the readers they are swiped through. Nokia’s model harvests it right from the air.

System works via a wide band antenna and two simple circuits. They pick up frequencies ranging from 500 megahertz to 10 gigahertz and convert those waves into electrical current. So far they have been able to harvest up to 5 millliwatts and wish to get at least 20, which is enough to keep a phone in standby mode.

Don’t run to store immediately as these charging system are not expected to be on the market for another 3-5 years.

Finally Nokia N97 Launched in India

Couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Nokia’s N97 is going to launch in June month in 75 countries and India was of course one of them. Today the handset was showcased in New Delhi but there’s still no pricing attached, which was quite annoying.

Nokia calls it the “world’s most advanced mobile computer”. Below mentioned are the Features of Nokia N97:

Nokia N97 handset will run on an ARM 11 434 MHz processor on a Symbian OS (v9.4) with a Series 60 UI. Specially, It’s for social networking and connectivity to Nokia’s new OVI store. Other features include -

A 3.5-inch TFT resistive touchscreen, with 16M colors and a 360 x 640 pixel resolution
- The screen has an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotating the display
- Supports handwriting recognition
It has a slide out full QWERTY keyboard
3.5mm earphone socket that doubles up for a TV out for audio and video
Stereo FM radio with RDS, Visual Radio and an FM Transmitter
Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 (micro)
3G (with HSDPA), EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi

Price: The Nokia N97 is worth Rs. 36,000 or a few thousand more. We’ll know soon the exact price.

Nokia E52 with 8 hours of talk or 23 days standby

Nokia has just rowed another E-series device into market. The Nokia E52, which is not so attractive but with superb battery backup feature: 8 hours of talk or 23 days of standby.

The other required features are: an A-GPS, WiFi, HSUPA data, and 3.2 megapixel with generous support for your IT environments via built-in mobile VPN, Call Connect, and choice of corporate email options including Nokia Messaging, Exchange, and yes, Lotus Notes too.

Skype will integrate with Nokia Nseries

Skype with Nokia N-Series

Now, Skype will be pre-integrated in Nokia N-Series mobile phones, company announced in Mobile World Congress trade show, Barcelona.

The first model with this Skype feature will be available with Nokia N97 & will start commercially in June. The app will run on both Wi-Fi and on 3G. N-Series smartphones run on Symbian S60 operating system.

How you can communicate: The address-book of the phone will be connected to the Skype software to make users aware when their Skype contacts are online so they can make free voice calls or send SMS.

Users will also have the possibility to make phone calls from the integrated Skype to other cellphones or landline numbers. For this service, obviously they need to pay. With the increase in capabilities in cell phones, VoIP is becoming a viable option.

However, in this way, mobile phone bills can get expensive.

It was the news that skype will be ibuilt add-on software in Nokia mobiles however it’s official now that Skype will be coming to iPhones and iPod touches tomorrow i.e. Tuesday and to RIM BlackBerries in May.

Here are the features:
A 2-inch QVGA screen, backlit keys, a 1,000mAh battery good for 4.5 hours of yappin’, EDGE data, inbuilt GPS, 128MB of RAM, a microSD card slot, USB / Bluetooth and Symbian S60 running the show. Expectation of launching it in European markets is coming April month for €220 ($289), though worldwide availability remains a mystery.

Nokia’s New Mobile Phones: E63 & 5800

The much awaited cellphone Nokia E63 is now available in India. Retailing for less than Rs. 15,000 INR, this seems to be a good buy. But compared to the expectations of 250$, I think that the process are still a little steep, however the Mobile Phone is pretty impressive. Though a little bigger than E71, I would say a good upgrade from an E61i.

Nokia 5800 Xxpress Music

It’s also confirmed that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will hit the Indian stores by this weekend. The pricing is Approx. Rs. 19,400. The first batch of Nokia’s in 2009 is looking good. The 5800 faces competition from LG Cookie which is aggressively priced @ Rs. 13,000 & highly promoted in India. The LG Cookie went on sale last week.

So at the end, we’re expecting some phones in 2009 year.

Update: Nokia launched Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on 6th January’08 at the cost of Rs 21,899 on A.R. Rehman’s birthday.

Recent Update: Nokia had shipped just over 500,000 5800 XpressMusic mobiles in just 30 days.

More Updates: Nokia’s New York & Chicago stores got inventory of Nokia 5800, but didn’t start selling, however you can pick up Nokia’s touchscreen pioneer for just $399 i.e. less than iPhone cost.

Nokia 6208 Classic Touchscreen Phone for China

China will soon experience a new touchscreen Mobile Phone getting launched by Nokia called the 6208 Classic phone. It’s the regular candybar phone which is still not officially announced by Nokia.

Nokia 6208c phone features an alphanumeric keypad and is integrated with stylus & handwriting recognition features. The touchscreen phone sports a 2.4 QVGA touchscreen display. It’s a user friendly phone, so the users will find it very easy to operate and smoothly perform its functions.

This phone incorporates a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus & dual LED flash that will enable the users to click clear and bright images even in dark. MP3 player & FM radio is also been wrapped up by the Nokia phone. Tri-band GSM is supported and Bluetooth connectivity is also on board. The 860mAh battery provides 3.5 hours of talktime & standby time upto 12.5 days. The internal memory is of 13MB and can be expanded upto 8GB.

Since Nokia 6208c is not officially announced, so still there are no details on its availability and price but I hope that details will be in the market very soon. The phone is expected to release in China only.

Nokia Maps came under fire for showing Kashmir as part of Pakistan. The largest mobile handset manufacturer in the world that controls around half mobile handset market in the country was attacked for showing the disputed Kashmir region as Pakistani territory.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) activists torched a large Nokia showroom in central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

In Jabalpur, a large number of BJP activists assembled in the city and burnt down the mobile handset shop.

BJP activists not only torched the shop but also destroyed a large number of hoardings in major areas of the city and other towns in the state. The activists urged authorities to take action against Nokia for indulging in “anti-national” activities. The protesters also clarified that they would intensify their protests should the authorities not take up the matter and if a case was not registered.

The Nokia showroom owner later accused the BJP activists of deliberately attacking the shop and said that he had nothing to do with the new application developed by the company “This software is developed by Nokia. This is the problem of Nokia and we’re not concerned with it as we’re simply shop owners, not the client of the company. But, the manner in which the mob entered and started torching the shop is bad,” said Rafiq Khan, the Nokia showroom owner.

Nokia N85 Features: At 103 x 50 x 16 mm and 128g, the Nokia N85 is aimed at camera phone junkies. Featuring a 5.0-megapixel camera, 85MB of built-in memory, microSD card slot, integrated A-GPS, HSDPA, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and an accelerometer.

The OLED display is indeed good, unless it’s exposed to direct sunlight. In all other aspects the N85 isn’t innovative, but it’s just fine a smartphone with a nice browser, satisfying audio performance and camera.

Update: Current Price in India is 25,939.
