LG Revolution 4G LTE Hands-On Verizon

The LG Revolution is a new 4G LTE handset for Verizon Wireless that was launched today at the carrier’s press event at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.

LG Revolution sports 4.3 inch capacitive touchscreen display, 5MP autofocus camera, front facing camera, HD video recording, 16GB of internal memory and up to 32GB of expandable memory. LG Revolution also features Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, DLNA, HDMI, DivX support and mobile hotspot for share 4G connection with up to 8 WiFi-capable devices.

Verizon Wireless, a provider of 4G and 3G network, has launched 4G LTE network suite of 10 consumer-oriented devices that got stage time include:

The LG Revolution, LG’s first 4G smartphone. The Revolution has HD support for streaming, playing, and recording video, a 4.3-inch touch screen; Android 2.2; video telephony support with front-facing camera and mobile hot-spot capability to share a 4G connection with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
HTC’s first 4G LTE smartphone, the HTC Thunderbolt. “Let me tell you, it’s blazing fast,” said HTC CEO Peter Chou, who noted that he has been using the phone as his “personal device” and specifically touted Skype video chat and video streaming over LTE. The Thunderbolt features HTC Sense 2.0, Skype mobile with video, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4.3-inch WVGA display, Dolby surround sound, an 8-megapixel camera and HD video recording, and wireless DLNA capability.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, 4G LTE Smartphone (previously called the Inspiration), and 4G LTE mobile hot spot, which is small enough to fit into a pocket or purse.
The Motorola Droid Bionic, which has Android with Adobe Flash and HTML5, a front-facing VGA camera, a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera, 4.3-inch HD quality screen, HDMI connectivity, dual-core 1GHz processor, and 512 DDR2 RAM.
The Motorola Xoom. The 10.1-inch tablet runs on Android Honeycomb, plays 1080p HD video, has an Adobe Flash Player, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chats, and a 5-megapixel camera to capture video in 720P HD. Mobile hot-spot capability provides connection for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
The HP Pavilion and HP Compaq notebooks in their 4G incarnations.

LG and Verizon have yet to provide any pricing information for the Revolution , the company said it is expanding its 4G LTE network to an additional 140 markets by the end of this year.

One All-India 3G License Bids Reach 79 bln Rs

3G Technology For Cell Phone

Bids for one set of nationwide third-generation (3G) mobile spectrum license reached 79 billion rupees (1.78 billion in dollars), or 126% above the base price on this thirteenth day of an auction.

The auction started on April 9 and is still on. Till now, 76 rounds of bidding had been completed by Saturday, the Department of Telecommunications said on its website. The base price for one set of pan-India licenses had been set at 35 billion rupees.

Government will sell four such licenses. Three from the auction and one to the state-run telecoms firms who would have to match the highest bid price paid by the private operators. All major mobile operators including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Vodafone’s Indian unit, are participating in the auction.

Nokia New Touch-Screen Tablet?

Nokia, working with design and manufacturing partners on a new touch-screen tablet that could emerge as early as this fall? However, Nokia hasn’t announced any news in this regard.

TheStreet.com quotes Kumar as saying. “This is a new window, and Nokia had better be at the starting gate if and when the product category takes off.”

Nokia isn’t new to portable Internet devices, having in the last five years come out with the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet and subsequent N800, N810, and N900, not to mention the Nokia Booklet 3G Netbook.

It’s unclear whether the alleged Nokia tablet that’s getting ink Tuesday would be a follow-on to that line of devices or a more full-featured direct competitor to the iPad and HP Slate, as well as devices sure to come from the likes of Dell, Lenovo, and any of the other companies eyeing tablet territory.

Wow! iPhone 3GS Coming Soon to India?

We all are expecting iPhone 3GS (The Fastest iPhone Ever) will be launched in India on 24th March’10.

This handset will be locked with any network that provide the handset for a year or so, however it’s still not clear which service provider will choose Apple. We’ll update the prices very soon.

BTW, iPhone 4G is all set to hit the US market, however we’re still waiting to launch 3G in India barring with MTNL and BSNL.

Anyways, let’s hope, iPhone 3GS will launch in Indian market this month & we’ll enjoy the latest phone features.

Update: iPhone 3GS is available with Vodafone & Airtel connection so now it’s easy to buy with valuable network as well.

No comparison in Palm Pre, Nokia N97 & iPhone

June is really a big month for smartphones, in the past 1 week three decades biggest smartpones have launched. The Palm Pre, Apple iPhone 3GS and the Nokia N97! The Pre promises to revive Palm and put new life into the once very innovative maker, Apple unveil its fastest iTouch device ever with a major OS update and Nokia looks to create that punch in the touch screen segment with its N97.

Each one of them appeals to a different consumer and has its own strong points and ready buyers. N97, Pre and the iPhone all three have a different structure, different OS and a different market. So which one of these are you buying? Waiting for reviews comparing them? Have a look at each of them individually:

About Palm Pre: Palm ‘Pre’ is good attempt at the smartphones market, than the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G. iPhone has its own charm , it attracts people, gets usual attention and is wonderful gizmo. But the iPhone fails in some common things and that make a switch for some Blackberry user. The Pre packs in a physical QWERTY, brings in Multitasking and a great UI with multitouch. It’s the best of both worlds. Touch devices are buzzing and its a wonderful way to use any technology. Pre gets the best of touch and physical with an amazing OS/UI. , Pre is like Superman Returns.

About Nokia N97: Nokia N97 though a N-series, reminds as the communicator. An attempt made by Nokia to hit the touch market and indeed make it a iPhone killer. N97 packs in extreme features with 32GB+16GB storage, 5MP camera with DVD quality video recording and live widgets on the homescreen to present better web experience. At the similar time a sideways sliding QWERTY resembles the E90 design once open (though the mechanism is as seen in SE Xperia). Features alone did make a good gadget. Not a very little phone, bulky, studded with features and a sideways opening keyboard that is much more inconvenient to use (on the go) than a Blackberry, Palm Pre, E71 or even an iPhone. N97is a business phone made for media lovers. Mainly trying to stop the touch devices from robbery Nokia users on their side. Although the 5800 did extremely well on the price point, the N97 is Nokia’s attempt to serve the power users. All in all, the N97 retains the Nokia users … giving little competition to the iPhone.

N97: However this doesn’t fit here, as mention that Nokia makes the same error it made with the N7710. It was a full featured device in its time with FM, Touchscreen, handy design, nice camera etc. Though the processor was so slow that the usability was terrible. With 128MB ram and 434Mhz processor on a king size smartphone like the N97 makes wonder of the Symbian OS will handle the power users efficiently?

About iPhone 3GS: The 2 things redefined by Apple in the smartphones 1) Multitouch / full touch interface 2) The App Store. These were 2 masterstrokes in 2 years. Super hit, no doubt! We love the iPhone – amazing audio/video, mobile internet like never before, again a great swift OS+UI and the Apple touch in every turn. With Jail breaking and App Store apps its haven. Apple manage to present a unique powerphone feel with the iPhone, its own charm, own followers! Regular smartphone users would find it mighty difficult to adapt to Apple’s style. No Bluetooth transfer, no USB mass storage, no physical keypad/qwerty, no camera flash, proprietary chargers, cables etc. Though with an amazing OS v3.0, superb games, hardware bump, video recording and even stronger web integration with wireless goodies, Apple manages to attract its media lovers. iPhone is a beautiful and fast phone.

In a funny way, Business users would feel the iPhone as their girlfriend whereas the Blackberry as their wife! What do you guys feel about that……

India 3G spectrum auction postponed by two weeks

Yes, it’s true that India has postponed the auction of 3G spectrum from an original date of January 16th to the 30th, following requests from potential bidders to have more time to review related documents & rules. At the same time, the deadline for applications to become a bidder has been extended from the 5th to the 15th. The auction will give domestic & foreign companies the option to acquire the 2.1GHz wireless frequency, used for HSPA-based 3G data network services.

Two days after the close of the 3G auction, India’s Ministry of Communications will host another auction for the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands, intended for quicker mobile broadband networks such as WiMAX.

The auction is projected to be a lively one, as India’s mobile market is growing at huge rate of 10 million new users per month. The government further notes that bidders who win a 3G license will also be able to offer services under the 2G spectrum. Analysts believe that it’ll be the money-maker for winning bidders, as 3G network access is not expected to drive revenue, at least initially. The auction may also help Apple and the iPhone 3G, which is currently without its namesake feature in India.

Update: State-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has said that it plans to launch 3G telecom services in national capital New Delhi in next 8 days.
