1. Samsung Galaxy Note

The Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 represents all that’s terrible and all that’s exciting about the modern era of smartphones. The Note however was quite a hit with the business class users as it came off as a device that managed to offer substantial speed with its 1.4GHz Dual Core and a large enough display to get work done on the fly.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is a huge device and as a result, whether you would want to buy it really depends on whether you are able to look beyond its size and bulk (although at about 180g, it’s not really very heavy). The Note also features plenty of video codecs built in to handle all format runs on Android Gingerbread with an ICS update on the horizon. The Samsung S-Pen or Smart Pen stylus can also be quite handy for both work and play or just jotting down notes.

2. Sony Xperia S

Sony’s latest high-end Smartphone in their Xperia range was only recently launched for India and is the first device launched under the Sony branding (minus the Ericsson). It’s the only phone running Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and that’s the future. In many ways, this is the ultimate early adopter phone. The phone itself isn’t perfect; typically, Nexus phones aren’t the best hardware on the market. But the software takes a major leap forward, with everything from a better Gmail experience to a faster browser and the ability to put folders on your home screens.

This is physically the biggest phone I’ve seen recently, measuring 5.3 by 2.7 by 0.4 with a sprawling 4.65-inch, 1,280-by-720 Super AMOLED screen. The display is too big for people with smaller thumbs to use one-handed. It’s very well built, with top-quality plastic around the back and sides with a nicely textured matte finish. I did miss the gradient anodized aluminum housing on the HTC One S, though. A prominent silver ring surrounds the camera lens on the back, and protrudes slightly, just enough that the phone tilts a bit when sitting flat on a table.

Calls sounded clear through an Aliph Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset, although voice dialing doesn’t work over Bluetooth, which is a pesky and unnecessary limitation. The speakerphone got very loud, but sounded tinny; at least it didn’t distort heavily. Battery life was solid, at 9 hours and 9 minutes of talk time while connected to LTE.

HTC adds a Car Mode, which displays a beautiful landscape home screen with large icons for easy access while behind the wheel. This includes the free Google Maps Navigation, as well as icons for making calls, streaming Internet radio, and calling up music tracks stored on the phone.

5. Motorola Droid RAZR

Razr Maxx is also one of the most expensive smartphones on the market.

The Droid Razr Maxx is thicker than the original Motorola Droid Razr, but considering how slim the Razr was, that isn’t a hardship. The phone is 5.2 by 2.7 by .35 inches (HWD), as compared to .28 inches depth on the older phone; basically, the whole handset is now as thick as the camera “bump” up top, smoothing the body out.

More importantly, like the Razr this is an extremely well-built phone—rock solid, with a water-resistant back, a steel core, and a Gorilla Glass display. The back panel has a black and gray pattern and feels slightly grippy; the front resists even greasy fingerprints. A door on the side panel hides the SIM and MicroSD card slots, and the phone comes with a 16GB card as well as an additional 16GB of internal storage.

The Droid Razr is superior for many reasons including better battery life, better physical materials, and better call quality and radio reception, for instance. That all outweighs the OS downgrade, although we wish we didn’t have to choose between the best hardware and the most current OS.

The world’s first unboxing of the world’s first Intel powered phone the Lava XOLO X900 first only on FoneArena. This Android smartphone went on sale on April 23rd in India for Rs. 21,990 available only online. Intel and Lava showcased this device at MWC 2012 in February this year. Actually India is the first country in which the XOLO X900 is being launched. The specifications include a 1.6Ghz Atom Z2460 processor capable of Hyper Threading. The graphics chip is clocked at 400Mhz enabling playback of Full HD content and HD quality games.

Other features include 4.03-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution (295 PPI), 8 megapixel rear camera with flash, 10fps burst mode and 1080p video recording, 1.3 megapixel front camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage space, HSPA+ connectivity up to 21Mbps, HDMI out and NFC built-in. Unfortunately, the phone will be sold with Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch, although an Android 4.0 update is in works. NFC and HDMI connectivityfeature on the phone. Battery life is rated at 5 hours of 3G browsing , 45 hours of audio playback and 8 hours of talktime. It’s running on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and an update to ICS has been promised.

The Mini 10 with the Atom Z530 processor (1.6GHz) that we tested costs $534 as configured. The price puts our Mini 10 beyond the usual upper limit of a netbook (though units start at under $350). In addition to the Atom Z530 processor, In this 1GB of soldered-on RAM, 802.11g Wi-Fi, an ethernet jack (10/100, not gigabit), three USB ports, headphone output, mic input, an HDMI-output, and a slightly higher-res screen than most 10-inch netbooks (1366 by 768). Can I Bin My Laptop & Replace with Kindle Fire?

The main thing to remember about the Kindle Fire is that it is not a tablet, not a computer. It is not designed to compete with the iPad, and head to head it wouldn’t stand a chance. And although it may put some of the cheaper and more rudimentary tablets in their place it would struggle against the top brands in terms of capacity and responsiveness. Having said all that this is a very neat piece of kit and compared with its predecessors it is absolutely dripping with extras that make it a thoroughly enjoyable product to own.

Kindle Fire Specs:

At just under $200 it is reasonably priced for what it offers and probably fits fairly neatly into the general budget for a decent Christmas or Birthday gift without the need for breaking the bank. Priced as it is, producers Amazon, claim to be making a loss on the product itself, in the hope that they will redeem the loss on the cost of the item through the sales of apps, video, movies and books from the Amazon website on to the devices. You will need to be prepared to purchase all of the media you want to use through Amazon if you want to use it through the Fire as it is essentially just a media viewer, although a state of the art one, designed to help you access Amazon products.

The 7” screen is multi touch and very responsive, but not quite as intuitive as an iPad in following finger movements on screen. It uses technology called In Plane Switching which does allow for wide angle viewing, useful if you are sharing a movie with a friend, and the 1024 x 600 pixel 169 ppi gives the video display a nice rich effect. The screen itself is made from gorilla glass, superbly tough and you shouldn’t worry about needing screen protectors, as the average set of keys, or other random metallic objects that you might have stowed in the bottom of your bag pose no real threat at all. Like a Computer, but not a Computer:

You have to remind yourself that this is not a computer, but with the combination of the high speed dual core processor, some of the creative apps and the fast internet browsing it does feel like you have a device which is all but in name a PC. Load it up with Office Suite Pro 5, Exchange By TouchDown, (and Facebook, of course!) and you might as well be at your desk. The web browser silk is an innovative feature and something of which Amazon are rightly boastful, although not all websites are sized perfectly on screen, access and flow between web pages is smooth and load time is minimal. Overall if you were looking to replace your tired old laptop, notebook or PC you could probably manage with the Kindle Fire and not suffer to greatly (if at all) as a consequence.

Storage Issues:

Storage on the device itself is an issue. It comes with 8GB as standard, which for a media playing device, given the current direction in terms of file size in terms of definition and quality, that media is going, 8GB is hopelessly inadequate. You look at the numbers and almost shout, “What were they thinking?” Particularly as it doesn’t come with an SD Card Slot. Especially as included in the 8GB is the 1.5GB OS, leaving you with 6.5GB; enough to hold 1 movie, 20 apps, 200 songs and a couple of hundred books in total. Not really the greatest media catalogue in the world. Amazon were of course thinking, as everyone is, with their heads in the cloud. And the cloud here is an excellent feature, with 5gb of free storage and for a buck a year you can get an extra gigabyte, giving you the storage without the hassles of cluttering the device and worrying about download times.

Overall the Kindle Fire is kit definitely worth having, it will not stand up against and Ultrabook, or iPad, but against a standard notebook, it performs fairly well and as a media viewer it is in a class of its own. Its major plus point lies in its price, which is no fortune and won’t require a large online balance transfer so the Kindle Fire should not be passed by simply because of its shortcomings.

WSJ (Wall Street Journal) draw closer attention on Apple 8-inch iPad testing. That Apple is currently testing a smaller version of the iPad and Cupertino’s planning to produce a smaller, 8-inch slate to partner its 9.7-inch flagship that, if it ever sees the light of day, would compete with the highly successful Kindle Fire. It’ll pack a screen with a resolution close to the 1024 x 768 display on the current model.

This model might also run on LTE produced by AU Optronics and LG Display, as test device with the same screen resolution as the current iPad 2, which will apparently be replaced with the iPad 3’s high-res “retina display” possibly by March launch.

Apple wants to expand its product pipeline to maintain its leading position in the tablet market by releasing a cheaper model iPad to boost its demand to those on a budget. The Fire’s success suggests a big market for a shrunk-down iPad, if the price shrinks as well.

Microsoft India Web Store Hacked in Plain Text Document

Breaking News: Microsoft India’s web store being hacked by a group calling itself Chinese Evil Shadow Team. The hacker team is seems a two-man team, who also managed to upload a page to deface the site and put a new face on Windows products, revealed that user passwords were saved in plain text.

The store is now offline, and site is not run by Microsoft, but Quasar Media, an Indian company responsible for its maintenance and operation. The company has confirmed the attack, and sent out defensive emails to members. That credit card details and payment information databases were not affected, however, other data may have been exposed, such as order details, and shipping addresses, apart from usernames, e-mail addresses, and passwords.

The hackers appear to have uploaded a file called evil. In Html, which says “Unsafe system will be baptized”. Things got bad when Hacker posted screenshots of the user database see below its screen shot:

Microsoft will be sending an email with a temporary password and a prompt to create a new password. Users who receive the e-mail are requested to immediately create a new password.

If analyze it deep, there are some negative points of it as well. The tablet screen, which is pressure sensitive, responds rather slowly to gestures. It’s certainly not as dazzling as the high-end tablets but that can be expected by its price. Browsing Internet and running the apps, one could easily notice that the response time is also quite slow. Scrolling, for instance, is a swipe-and-wait affair. A goofy plastic cover protects the screen, slowing down the touch response considerably.

Overall impression that this tablet gives us that it is built for performance. Many of those likely to use or own the the Aakash Tablet will never have used a desktop computer, and it’s possible that they never will.

The Galaxy Nexus has been released as a phone that offers the best of Samsung and Google – a marriage of excellent hardware and excellent software. The device looks quite similar to the Nexus of old, though has many of the Samsung tweaks that make a phone a solid and undisputedly nice piece of work. The phone itself impresses in the looks department and it is quite slim at 8.8mm and also feels a lot smaller than you would imagine it to be because of the rounded edges on the phone. In fact we found little problem fitting it into trouser or coat pockets and though it seems large it doesn’t feel much larger than many of the 4.3inch phones out there – which obviously works in its favour.

We must say we liked the Galaxy Nexus and can see Samsung doing quite well with this eagerly anticipated phone due to the mixture of power, innovation and the introduction of the excellent game-changing Ice Cream Sandwich. If there is one mobile phone contract that you should look into buying this year – it is for the Galaxy Nexus.

India’s Cellphone Demand to Reach 350m Units by 2020: Report
