India’s Cellphone Demand to Reach 350m Units by 2020: Report

Demand for cellphones in India, is projected to increase up to 350 million units by 2020 in contrast to an predicted 130 million units in 2011, as per an Enrst & Young report in collaboration with FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). India has been rated as the world’s 2nd largest wireless (or cellphone) market after China. This report projects that 505 million handsets will be manufactured in India by 2020. It recommends that government should establish manufacturing hubs for machinery and components that go into making cellphones. Currently, companies such as Samsung and Nokia are assembling some of their phones in India but their components are still being imported from China. This report also has statistics about the average selling price (ASP) of phones in India in 2010, which was Rs 2,300 and is estimated to rise up to Rs 2,950 by 2020.

Latest News: Hyundai India launched its smallest car Eon today at Gurgaon. Hyundai Eon launched in 6 variants with starting price of Rs 2.69 Lakhs to top variant of Rs. 3.71 Lakhs. Hyundai Dealers have already started to accept the booking of Hyundai Eon car starting October 1, 2011 with a booking amount of Rs. 20,000. Here’re the list of prices basis on the model:

Hyundai India is going to unveil a new entry level car also referred as low-end this Diwali by the launch of Hyundai Eon. It has been hailed as the 21st century’s Maruti 800. During the festive season, car manufacturers and dealers offer many discounts and freebies to attract customers and Hyundai is strong-willed to cash-in on the occasion with launch of Hyundai Eon.

Hyundai Eon is an exceptional price-specific product. It is based on the platform of Hyundai Santro and it was codenamed as HA H800. Having a look on its exteriors, the new small Hyundai Eon car is a tall boy model, while not sharing the similar magnitude as Hyundai Santro.
It’s new hatchback is shorter in length and is lighter, weighing just around 795 kg.
Sporting the Fluidic design, the car is bestowed with elegant looks in spite of the small price.
The Hyundai Eon carries the same hexagonal grille like in any other Hyundai car along with the headlights with the chrome lining.
As per sources in the industry the Hyundai Eon interiors are also well designed and are on the same line as Hyundai i10.
There is a CD player, USB port, remote central locking and tilt steering.
Just like Hyundai Santro, the Hyundai Eon also offers good boot space of around 215 L, but this in turn gives lesser leg room for the rear seat occupants.
The car offers a higher ground clearance to meet the Indian driving conditions.
The Hyundai Eon engine is the Santro IRDE 814 cc engine with 56 Bhp peak power output.

Google launched it’s iGoogle’s product debut in 2005 and I think people like it. We’ve always liked the minimal Google.com homepage, but if you prefer a little spice to your search page (Like Bing), you’ll like the Google’s new background image feature.

It’s a simple enough feature that we’ve heard rumors: Just go to Google.com, move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen and click on Change background image, and pick any image from Google’s Public gallery, your Picasa web album photos, or upload any image from your desktop.

They’re still rolling out this feature to all their servers. I hope you enjoy this new feature. Leave your comments about it….

India is Developing its Own Operating System

Indian government is busy developing its own Operating System for computers, along with anti virus softwares. The India government has focused on the said softwares owing to the continual attacks on government sites and loss of data.

A lower level operating system and application software may be preferred to the advanced versions, which necessarily require access to internet for upgrades. The new software could be deployed in key departments that have been under constant cyber attacks.

No sensitive information will be stored on systems connected to the internet, while ministries and departments have been told to carry out regular IT systems audits. The government has also established a Crisis Management Plan against cyber attacks to be implemented by all central ministries, state governments and critical sectors.

Earlier CDAC developed an OS called BOSS, short for Bharat Operating System Solutions. The Indian Government has also invested in developing the famous $10 laptop, the ISRO Bhuvan, and a $200 million microprocessor.

A Man – Had No Food or Drink for 70 Years

Prahlad Jani – A man who is claiming not to have any food or drink since last 70 years is being held in a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gurjarat, where he is being closely monitored by India’s defence research organization, who believe he may have a genuine quality which could help save lives.

Can you imagine a person who is living without any food for last 70 yrs? Think again…

He has now spent more than 7 days without food or water under strict observation and doctors say his body has not yet shown any adverse effects from hunger or dehydration.

This man claims to have left home aged seven and lived as a wandering sadhu or holy man in Rajasthan, is regarded as a ‘breatharian‘ who can live on a ‘spiritual life-force‘ alone. He believes he is sustained by a goddess who pours an ‘elixir’ through a hole in his palate. His claims have been supported by an Indian doctor who specializes in studies of people who claim supernatural abilities, but he has also been dismissed by others as a “village fraud.”

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, whose scientists develop drone aircraft, intercontinental ballistic missiles and new types of bombs. They believe Mr. Prahlad could teach them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims to hang on until help arrives.

“If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science,” said Dr. G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.

“We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all.”

So far, Mr. Prahlad has not eaten or drunk any fluids in six days and similarly has not passed urine or a stool in that time. He remains fit and healthy and shows no sign of lethargy. Doctors will continue observing him for 15 days in which time they would expect to see some muscle wastage, serious dehydration, weight loss,and fatigue followed by organ failure.

Most humans cannot survive without food for 50 days. The longest hunger strike recorded is 74 days.

Let’s see till when Mr. Prahlad keep his spirit up, BTW, hope for the best. It’ll be a new record for India.

An unverified rumor came from Chinese forum — but a set of specs for a upcoming Apple iPhone have leaked out along above mentioned screenshot. As suspected, iPhone model MB717LL 9 (“iPhone2,1″ perhaps?) will have a 600MHz processor (up from the current 400MHz unit), 256MB of RAM (from the current 128MB), 32GB of storage, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, as well as a digital compass and FM radio, all while retaining the same battery, basic shape, and screen size.

Economy slowdown and the popularity of cheap netbooks, Apple is “tailoring changes” that will “drive down prices” of the most accepted Mac laptop models.

Customers in the coming months can look forward to more affordable versions of both the 13-inch MacBook and iMac, according to people who’ve proven extremely reliable in predicting Apple’s future business directions. The MacBook — which presently begin at US$999 when fitted with a previous-generation polycarbonate enclosure and $1299 in an aluminum unibody casing — is the bestselling Mac in terms of volume. BTW, iMac is the most admired Mac desktop.

It’s believed that the first batch of more affordable Macs could turn up as early as this spring.

Mac laptop Industry Standard editor Ian Lamont predicted in December that Apple would terminate the iMac desktop line, because of the mass market’s move to low-cost, portable computers.

But Apple-watchers have known for months that Apple couldn’t possibly be ignoring the recession-driven shift in the PC market away from $1,000 notebooks to $300 netbooks. Acer chairman J.T. Wang has forecast that 1 in 4 laptops bought next year will be netbooks. Gartner’s more conservative forecast says that’ll be true in three years.

Steve Jobs said, “We don’t know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk.” Cheaper Macs at this point are a given. What remains to be seen for fans is how Apple will redefine the idea of low-cost computer.

GDrive: Google’s new service – Access Computer Online

Technology experts predict that Google will soon launch a new service that would enable users to access their personal computer from internet connection.

The new service called GDrive system will merge Google’s all existing web-based services to make them easier to use together. It could kill off the desktop computer, which relies on a powerful hard drive. You can store not just personal files, operating system could be stored on Google’s own servers and accessed via the internet as well.

“Throw your hard drive away, Google’s Gdrive is arriving in 2009,” the Telegraph quoted TG Daily, an American technology news website, as predicting.

The GDrive would make it possible to access and update information like emails, photographs, music, documents and spreadsheets from any device with an internet connection.

It is believed that the GDrive could “cause a major paradigm shift in how we use computers and bring Google one step closer to dethroning Windows on your desktop”.

However, there are some who think that trusting Google with so much personal or commercial data is dangerous, for information may not be as safe in the cloud as it is in a computer.

However all this information is still a rumour as Google spokesman refused to confirm GDrive launching?

Yahoo freezing employees salaries

Carol Bartz, the new CEO of Yahoo is freezing employee salary.

Yahoo has been losing market share to Google in recent years, and Bartz is looking to figure out how the company can rebound in a market that has changed dramatically over the past several years.

Yahoo’s salary freeze comes a day after Microsoft Corp. announced plans to cut 5,000 jobs amid falling profits. About 1,400 positions already were eliminated this week. The job cuts come as the company announced that fourth-quarter profits fell 11% to US$4.17 billion.

Also Thursday, Google reported that its fourth profit took a dive. CEO Eric Schmidt blamed the declining profits on one-time investment write-downs.

Google is shutting down several unpopular services

Google will either shutting down or stopping support several free Web-based services as it saving its resources.

The services could be Google Video, Google Notebook, Catalog Search, and Jaiku etc.

Google within a few months will stop letting users upload to Google Video, a free service launched in 2006. Later that year, Google bought YouTube, which has become the company’s dominant video property. Clips will not be removed from Video & the service will be more focused on search.

Google is nixing Catalog Search, a service that lets people see & search the full text of catalogs that had been scanned using optical character recognition technology. Google said the project helped it refine how it can make the full text of books available online, but overall the service wasn’t very popular, wrote Punit Soni, a product manager.

The company will also stop working on Google Notebook, although it’ll keep the service running for registered users. Notebook is an online organizational tool where people can create notes & share, among other features.

The changes come as Google said on Wednesday it’ll lay off 100 job recruiters. The company also plans to close engineering offices in Texas, Norway and Sweden, moving 70 engineers to other offices to better coordinate development efforts, it said. Now it’s showing economic slowdown everywhere.

Rumor has HTC Pre killer will run a version of Android with HTC tweaks and will have a huge display, which seems like a good combo. The mystery device is expected in the second quarter of the year, which gets back to our hope that we’ll see some Android heat at MWC next month.

Rumor: Sony into major cost cutting

Sony is facing difficulties again. PS3 sales sucked this holiday season & of course the economic crisis is also not help sell high-end TVs. The Times reports that their sources tell them about major cost cutting across the whole Sony Corporation.

The restructuring plans are supposed to be announced after the CES 2009.

It’s very much clear that something has to happen at Sony. It’ll be not an easy task to find the right directions. Every product category is highly competitive and Sony is not alone offering stylish high tech. other brands like Samsung and LG have also become basically as good as Sony and often offer their gear at more affordable pricing.

The Sony Walkman has lost to the Apple iPod and the Sony PS3 gets eaten alive by the Wii & the Xbox 360.

Update: Analyst are now saying that Sony needs to cut $100 in order to grow PS3 sales and this’ll happen this April so don’t buy & wait for cheaper PS3.

Windows Vista SP2 launch April’09?

Last week TechARP said that Microsoft Vista SP2 is scheduled for an April 2009 release to manufacturing — that means not you… not yet anyway.

We’re guessing that it will hit a month later for general release if the Vista SP1 rollout was any indication. So who’s TechARP? Oh just the same group of Malaysian kids that like to boast about how they broke the Vista SP1 and XP SP3 release schedules to the world.

That makes their “confidential source” worth listening to. The source adds that Microsoft will deliver a SP2 release candidate as early as February so we’ll know soon enough how accurate this rumor is.
