India’s Cellphone Demand to Reach 350m Units by 2020: Report

Demand for cellphones in India, is projected to increase up to 350 million units by 2020 in contrast to an predicted 130 million units in 2011, as per an Enrst & Young report in collaboration with FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). India has been rated as the world’s 2nd largest wireless (or cellphone) market after China. This report projects that 505 million handsets will be manufactured in India by 2020. It recommends that government should establish manufacturing hubs for machinery and components that go into making cellphones. Currently, companies such as Samsung and Nokia are assembling some of their phones in India but their components are still being imported from China. This report also has statistics about the average selling price (ASP) of phones in India in 2010, which was Rs 2,300 and is estimated to rise up to Rs 2,950 by 2020.

Fiat 500 Car – Specs, Prices, Specifications 2012

The Fiat 500 set to entered American seaboards after a several-decade and isn’t the same car that’s caught on in Europe. It’s better with more engine, revised suspension & upgraded safety. For as much as Italian culture have shaped American life, Italy’s iconic automaker has never succeeded.

In Europe, the Cinquecento’s revival from its 1957 roots has been di successo with 500,000 sold since 2007, specially among the smart set. But cuteness doesn’t always translate, and even when it does it’s not enough for at-least U.S. audiences. Other dozens of automakers have tried to squeeze this nation of calorically irresponsible drivers behind their wheels, only to meet up with indifference or complaints of how hard it is to reach drive-thru windows. Does the 500 have a chance, especially when it looks like a Pixar rendering in metal?

It wouldn’t if Fiat had followed its previous strategy: drive 500s from factory to boat, wave “Arrivederci” and take a government-mandated Socialist smoke break. Instead, Fiat actually tried to adapt the 500 to American tastes, and found that in doing so managed to make the 500 better overall; most of the changes for the U.S. model will soon show up in the Old World. Overall, the changes for the U.S. market added about 80 pounds to the 500, and this is where we would usually invoke Colin Chapman and grouse about how Fiat only has the Olive Garden to blame, but Fiat also chose to increase the power.

While base 500 models in Europe can go as low as 69 hp, the only U.S. option for now is a 1.4 MultiAir 4 cylinder, pumping 101 hp and 98 lb-ft of torque. Getting Americans to associate Fiat with consistent and cutting-edge engine technology would be a marketing accomplishment akin to a Details cover featuring the late Don Knotts. That said, Fiat engineers do share a cafeteria or two with Ferrari, and MultiAir qualifies as a real scientific achievement.

The system replaces the overhead camshaft controlling the intake valves with hydraulic controllers, which allow infinitely variable timing of the air coming into the pistons. That lets the engine’s computer to tailor combustion to the mood of the driver, getting out of the way at wide-open throttle while blipping the valves at other times for effectiveness. It’s quite trick, the engine head has a two-part casting, the oil in the hydraulics comes from the engine block and there’s a temperature sensor to get the oil at the right thickness.

As for the transmissions, the 500 launches with only a 5-speed stick shift; the 6-speed Aisin automatic ordered for us lazy Americans will come on line shortly. The deck comes stacked against the stick, a long-throw operation whose grasp on a preproduction model was as jumpy as a barista at quitting time. The 6 speed not only shifts smoother, it also responds to the invocation of a dash-button “Sport” mode at lower speeds. But it does come with a OPEC penalty; the hand-stirrer gets 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the automatic scores 27 mpg and 34 mpg.

The suspension of the 500 came in for a reworking as well; new bushings, springs, a rear torsion bar that’s three times stiffer than the Euro version. All this work makes the 500 endlessly fun around tight corners, with predictable amounts of understeer but no body lean. Acceleration sounds more fun than the actual results suggest, with decent pull below 40 mph and more restrained performance north of that. Its main flaw appears on washboard freeways, where the short wheelbase simply can’t soak up sharp sine waves. It’s not as aggressive or as powerful as the Mini, but it’s more livable.

Where Fiat scores its most style points is on the inside, where its combination of attractive, body-colored plastics and retro design make the Mini seem like its interiors be crafted by Fisher-Price. There’s a small number of changes for the U.S. market; the optional leather-coated seats have been bolstered for those who don’t pay money for skinny jeans, and the center cupholder can hold a Super Big Gulp, a.k.a. Cinquecento espressos. The dash and upright view make the 500′s cabin a pleasant place to spend time, although trying to look over your shoulder at other traffic reveals a Big Gulp-sized blind spot.

The inside also incudes seven airbags turn a crashing 500 into a bouncy castle. The chassis received stiffening and a few extra parts to meet U.S. crash standards, sufficient so that a 500 that had gone through a 40-mph offset test could simply open and close its doors.

The other place where Fiat plans to tackle the Mini is on sticker price. The 500 starts at $15,500, and its 3 levels top out at $19,500; with add-ons and colors, Fiat can build 500,000 different combinations. By Fiat’s reckoning, a comparably equipped 500 should undercut a similar Mini by $4,000. It’s even less than $1,000 away from a Toyota Yaris.

So although the 500 won’t outrun the Mini today, that may alter in the 1st quarter of 2012 when the 500 Abarth arrives hauling a turbo 1.4-liter MultiAir engine that could produce between 140 hp and 170 hp. A “cabrio” version will pop up at this year’s New York Auto Show, and the battery-powered 500 will lug into dealers toward the end of next year.

Fiat’s counting on Americans embracing small cars so much that the total insist for diminutive vehicles doubles by 2016. That seems optimistic not present a big boost in gas prices, and Fiat is selling style in a country that values size in its cars above all else. Motorola planning to launch first dual-sim Android phone in India next week. Dubbed as Milestone XT800, is actually a renamed Motorola Glam XT800.

The Glam has one GSM and one CDMA slot, so users have some flexibility in terms of choices for phone and data functions. The 3.7-inch (854×480) touch screen phone also has an HDMI-out port, GPS and a 5 megapixel camera. Bluetooth, Wi-fi, 3G, EDGE and GPRS round up the connectivity options for the phone which is supposedly coming pre-loaded with Android 2.2 Froyo. Samsung Galaxy Suit S5670 and Galaxy Ace S5830 – Hands On

Here are two leaked pictures of the Samsung Galaxy Suit S5670 and Galaxy Ace S5830.

The New Galaxy Suit S5670 will be running on the same plat form Android 2.2 OS and expected to be a mid-range Smart phone, further details about this device is not available. Its model number and looks suggest mid-range functionality, so it might be the I5500 Galaxy 5 successor.

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 was initially known as Galaxy Mini, expected to be running on Android 2.2 Froyo and features 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and an HVGA (480 x 320 pixels) touchscreen display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0.

Both the Galaxy Ace and the Galaxy Suit should be officially unveiled by Samsung at MWC 2011 next month, alongside the Galaxy Mini S5570 and the Galaxy S2.

World’s Longest Bridge in China – Qingdao Haiwan Bridge

China apart from being one of the fastest growing countries in terms of technology and economy, now has one more thing to boast about – the world’s longest sea bridge. The newly constructed 26.4 miles-long Qingdao Haiwan Bridge would easily cross the English Channel and is almost 3 miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the American state of Louisiana.

The vast structure links the centre of the booming port city of Qingdao in eastern China’s Shandong Province with the suburb of Huangdao, spanning the wide blue waters of Jiaozhou Bay. At least 10,000 workers toiled in two teams around the clock to build the bridge, which was constructed from opposite ends and connected in the middle in the last few days.

A staggering 450,000 tons of steel was used in its construction – enough for almost 65 Eiffel Towers – and 2.3 million cubic metres of concrete, equivalent to filling 3,800 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Chinese officials said that the bridge will be strong enough to withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake, typhoons or the impact of a 300,000 tonne vessel.

In December 2009, work started on a 31 mile bridge that will link Zhuhai in southern Guangdong Province, China’s manufacturing heartland, with the financial centre of Hong Kong. The £6.5 billion project is expected to be completed in 2016.

Dell Launches Streak 7 – 10-inch Business Tablet

Few months before, we’ve showed you the Dell streak in India. Now on Thursday Dell declared a tablet with a 7-inch touch screen at CES 2011 LAS VEGAS, and it plans to launch a 10-inch tablet later this year for business customers.

Dell briefly flashed the 10.1in Streak at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), but put the Streak 7 center stage, touting the tablet’s Corning Gorilla Glass-covered face, its Nvidia Tegra dual-core 1GHz processor, 1.3Mp webcam, 5Mp stills cam, GPS, 32GB of Flash storage, and its 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Streak 7, like Streak 5, will run Android 2.2, so Dell’s clearly unwilling to wait for Android 3 Honeycomb. The 7′s display resolution is just 800 x 480. Dell also announced its Venue smartphone, which has a 4.1-inch screen and an 8-megapixel camera.

No word yet on release date, price, or if there will be a consumer version.

There are also a bunch of Google Android Apps like Maps with Street View, Talk, Latitude, and more. At the back panel, Sony Ericsson has added 8.1-megapixel camera with Sony Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor that will allow you to shoot high-quality photos even in low light environments. This camera offers up to 2.46x smart zoom, has f/2.4 Aperture, Flash/LED, Face Detection, Geo-tagging, Image stabilization, Noise suppression, Touch focus, Touch Capture and Video Light. Internal phone memory is a mere 512MB but has an 8GB microSD card bundled. You can add up to 32GB microSD card.

The smartphone can be used for TV out though built in HDMI port. The XPERIA ARC Smartphone is integrated with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB support and loads of applications like Android Market Client, Google Search widget, and other major Google services.

Xperia arc would be available in Midnight Blue and Misty Silver colors. At this moment, there’s no word on pricing but it can be expected to be somewhat close to that of Xperia X10 when it was launched last year. However, this phone would be made available worldwide in this first quarter. So out of the new Xperia family phones, we already know the Xperia arc, Xperia Play and X10 Mini successors.

Sprint reveal HTC EVO Shift 4G and new 3G/4G MiFi

Sprint’s highly-awaited plans released this weekend the HTC EVO Shift 4G, powered by Android 2.2 OS with HTC Sense UI and Qualcomm MSM7630 800MHz processor. The big new addition is obviously the slide-out keyboard, a smart phone that uses the wireless carrier’s faster fourth-generation network.

The Shift has a 3.6-inch 800 x 480 LCD, Android 2.2 (with HTC Sense), and the same great 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7630 processor that’s in the G2 and myTouch 4G. Naturally there’s WiMAX 4g, in addition to EVDO Rev A., and HTC hopes to keep those radios alive with a 1500mAh battery. There’s a 5 megapixel camera around back, capable of 720p video, but oddly no front-facing camera.

The HTC Evo Shift will be available Jan. 9. It will cost $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and activation on a new two-year service contract.

Sprint also announced the launch of Novatel Wireless’ MiFi 3G/4G mobile hotspot device that provides wireless connectivity for up to five WiFi-enabled devices. The device will be available at all Sprint retail channels on Feb. 27 for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate activation.

India’s First Web TV Launch In New Year

Google Nexus S Price in India, US & UK

Google’s now got its own product page live for the Nexus S from Samsung. It’s also got a gyroscope as do the existing Galaxy S phones — integrated VoIP support, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Interestingly, the phone’s quoted as having nothing more than a 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird processor, seemingly shooting down rumors that this thing would be rocking the Orion dual-core setup.

Here’s the rundown of Google Nexus S:

Google Nexus S, Android 2.3 gingerbread OS will be soon available in India through online retailer infibeam at mid January or Late January and also available in some store of Mumbai. Google Nexus S will be soon available in India for Rs. 24,000 through infibeam. The Nexus S will be available for purchase “online and in-store from all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores,” either unlocked or with a T-Mobile plan. Across the US dollar & UK pond, look for the Nexus S to hit at Perfecto Mobile’s Handset Cloud, Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy.

LG Tablet – E-Note H1000B

LG has announced the E-Note H1000B firstly in the Korea. The key features are:

An Intel Atom 1.1 or a 1.6 GHz processor
1 GB of RAM
16 GB SSD
2 USB ports, and SD card slot
4-cell battery

This E-Note will have a resistive 10.1 inches touchscreen with an native resolution of 1366 x 768 with a stylus. The E-Note will ship with Windows 7 Home Starter OS, however you’ll have the option to upgrade Windows 7 Professional. According to reports, the Korean carrier KT will sell the E-Note for $847 which also includes the optional Wiimax modem as well.
