India is Developing its Own Operating System

Indian government is busy developing its own Operating System for computers, along with anti virus softwares. The India government has focused on the said softwares owing to the continual attacks on government sites and loss of data.

A lower level operating system and application software may be preferred to the advanced versions, which necessarily require access to internet for upgrades. The new software could be deployed in key departments that have been under constant cyber attacks.

No sensitive information will be stored on systems connected to the internet, while ministries and departments have been told to carry out regular IT systems audits. The government has also established a Crisis Management Plan against cyber attacks to be implemented by all central ministries, state governments and critical sectors.

Earlier CDAC developed an OS called BOSS, short for Bharat Operating System Solutions. The Indian Government has also invested in developing the famous $10 laptop, the ISRO Bhuvan, and a $200 million microprocessor.

Facebook is the only Social network in the world that show such dedication to the mobile platform undoubtedly. After being a top app on the iTunes App Store for the iPhone & iPod Touch.

Facebook was also one of the first apps to be integrated inside the Palm Pre. Not losing any time and momentum Facebook is now all set to go official on the Android Market. The official Facebook app for Android couldn’t come at a better timer with a plethora of Android devices expected to be released in the coming months.

Initially the Facebook app for the Android isn’t expected to offer as much as it does for the Apple iPhone but it is expected to leverage the Android capabilities well.

n other words, $120, $200, and $220 respectively. Before you get excited about the lower prices (when compared to Vista), remember that only 1% actually buy retail OS copies. The rest download bootleg copies from torrent sites get the OS when they buy a new computer.

Still, it’s great seeing Microsoft slashing their flagship product prices a bit. Maybe we’ll see less people call the company “M$” on online forums.

Some bad news for Windows XP users though: Windows 7 will insist on a clean install, allowing no upgrades. Any Windows 7 upgrade package will work with XP though, checking first if the XP installation is legit before installing itself onto the same partition as XP.

One more thing to keep in mind: upgrading to Windows 7 from a higher edition of Vista will also require a clean install, as in the case of a Vista Ultimate user wanting to install Winows 7 Home Premium.

Microsoft and Apple are fighting for mindshare of the consumers as both companies are roll out to upgrade their operating systems at the end of this year.

Apple showed Worldwide Developers Conference by Snow Leopard on Monday, the next main version of Mac OS-X. Apple has been very open about the fact an under-the-hood maintenance release, focusing on performance enhancements to the OS.

Windows-7 is basically Microsoft’s maintenance release for Vista, which according to many accounts was a failure for the company. “It’s really doesn’t matter the degree of the rewrite in the operating system. “The key is the consumer benefit.”

In early testing of Windows-7 its to bear out improvements in the operating system, Microsoft is coming with a very bad consumer experience with Windows Vista. That is not a minor obstacle for it to overcome.

Microsoft will fight with the industry perception that Windows-7 is just Vista with a few fixes. Which lead to slower adoption of the new operating system out of the gate.

Mac OS-X Leopard was a solid release, filled with features. Overall, Leopard had comparatively few problems throughout its life cycle. Apple on the other hand is coming off one of the most successful operating system launches in the company’s history.

Apple doesn’t have to fight off to negative perception from its users/the industry. Macs have been selling better than ever and there is no sense in slowing down anytime soon.

Apple sells its new OS for $129. That’s a flat fee. Everyone gets the same version that contain all features and enhancements. However, Leopard users will be offered an upgrade to Snow Leopard for $29. Microsoft is releasing its upgrade pricing, but it is expected to be much higher.

“The OS war is on in a big way,” Charging $29 won’t win Apple any converts, but Microsoft is going to look really bad with its upgrade pricing.

It’s obvious that Microsoft has a much bigger channel to push Windows-7 to customers, but we’ve seen with the Vista release that doesn’t always mean success for an operating system.

Apple is coming from a strong position with Mac OS-X Leopard, so its newest Snow Leopard release should be very strong.

Apple’s Snow Leopard is expected to dispatch in September. Microsoft will release Windows-7 in October.

Skype will integrate with Nokia Nseries

Skype with Nokia N-Series

Now, Skype will be pre-integrated in Nokia N-Series mobile phones, company announced in Mobile World Congress trade show, Barcelona.

The first model with this Skype feature will be available with Nokia N97 & will start commercially in June. The app will run on both Wi-Fi and on 3G. N-Series smartphones run on Symbian S60 operating system.

How you can communicate: The address-book of the phone will be connected to the Skype software to make users aware when their Skype contacts are online so they can make free voice calls or send SMS.

Users will also have the possibility to make phone calls from the integrated Skype to other cellphones or landline numbers. For this service, obviously they need to pay. With the increase in capabilities in cell phones, VoIP is becoming a viable option.

However, in this way, mobile phone bills can get expensive.

It was the news that skype will be ibuilt add-on software in Nokia mobiles however it’s official now that Skype will be coming to iPhones and iPod touches tomorrow i.e. Tuesday and to RIM BlackBerries in May.

Microsoft is testing office server

On Tuesday, Microsoft said that they’ve started testing of server products that will make up the next version of Office.

Software giant didn’t offer details when a test version of the software, code-named Office 14, will be made openly available.

“Today Microsoft provided a select group of customers early access to an Alpha version of Office server technologies,” the software maker said in a statement. “However, currently, Microsoft is not disclosing information about the timing for a Beta version.”

Microsoft has also begun testing for the next version of Exchange, code-named E14.

We’ve all sort of known that Windows 7 would be released in 2009, but Microsoft made the firmest statements to date on the topic. In a technical session on Thursday, the company outlined that Windows 7 software would ship mid-year 2009 with pre-configured Windows 7 systems shipping in time for the 2009 holiday season. It’s also reported that those listening very closely during the presentation could hear the soft but violent shattering of Microsoft employee vacation plans everywhere.
