India’s Android Tablet Aakash Review

The much awaited India’s ultra low cost Aakash tablet is finally launched. In association with Ministry of Infornmation & Technology (India), Datawind launches Ubislate 7 in India as Aakash. Aakash Tablet is set to bridge the big India DIGITAL DIVIDE. Its main objective is to provide students of India, especially in its countryside, a cheap alternative to PC. Through Aakash tablet, students in India would have access to good quality study content like video lectures, e-books etc.

Aakash tablet offers a web delivery platform that enables quality and interactive knowledge over the internet. The tablet is a computing device that is low in cost but rich in features. The tablet is also integrated with social networking applications like facebook, twitter and with email.

Here we look at its features:

If analyze it deep, there are some negative points of it as well. The tablet screen, which is pressure sensitive, responds rather slowly to gestures. It’s certainly not as dazzling as the high-end tablets but that can be expected by its price. Browsing Internet and running the apps, one could easily notice that the response time is also quite slow. Scrolling, for instance, is a swipe-and-wait affair. A goofy plastic cover protects the screen, slowing down the touch response considerably.

Overall impression that this tablet gives us that it is built for performance. Many of those likely to use or own the the Aakash Tablet will never have used a desktop computer, and it’s possible that they never will.

Laptop Memory Upgrade – Notebook RAM Types & Prices

Do you think that just because a laptop is small it doesn’t need memory? Laptops are underpowered enough as it is with their tough size and heat requirements, so don’t damage them anymore. Selecting correct memory upgrade for your computer, whether it’s a laptop or a desktop. The first choice is manufacturer, the next choice is model and the final choice is the model number. Crucial then presents the information shown at the right, along with a part selection and price.

To install your laptop memory you will need:

Compatible Laptop SODIMM memory module/s.
Anti-Static Wrist-strap (if available).
A Screwdriver suitable for your laptop’s memory cover.

Installing a SODIMM in your Laptop:

STEP 1: Disconnect the power cable, remove battery and ensure the laptop is off! The memory section of your laptop can be found on the bottom of the machine. Using a suitable screwdriver, undo the holding screw and gently remove the cover. Some covers have small lugs that help hold the cover in place. See your laptop’s manual if you can’t locate it.

STEP 2: Remove the memory you are replacing .If you have an open SODIMM slot, skip this step, if all of your SODIMM slots are full, you will need to remove one or more of your old modules before you can install the new memory.

Press down on the retaining clips on either side of the module.
Remove the module from the slot.
Do not use any tools in the removal or installation of memory modules.

STEP 3: Installing the Laptop Memory (RAM) If all of your SODIMM slots are full, you will need to remove one or more of your old modules before you can install the new memory.

Once the memory module is in its final position, the ejector clips should lock onto it and hold it in place.

STEP 4: Install your new module. Take your module out of its anti-static bag and hold it by the edges. If you have more than one open slot, fill the lowest numbered slot first.

Line up the notches in the row of metal pins at the bottom of your module with the keys in the SODIMM slot on your motherboard. (If the notches don’t line up right away, flip your module around and try it the other way. It doesn’t matter which side of your module has the black chips or the stickers on it. The important thing is to line up the notches.)
Align the notch of the memory module with that of the memory slot and gently insert the module into the slot at a 45-degree angle.

STEP 5: After installing the memory into the computer, before you close your case, turn your computer back on. When the computer is powered back up, it may be necessary to go into the computer BIOS to let the system properly detect the new RAM that has been installed in the computer. You should see the new amount of memory displayed on your startup screens or in the properties for “My Computer“.

STEP 6: If you face any problem in with your new RAM, check some loose points by following these things.

Check the power cords. Is everything plugged in properly?
Check the module. Did both side clips snap to hold the module firmly in place? Try removing the module and replacing it to make sure it is seated properly in the slot.
Check the wires and cables inside your computer. Did you accidentally bump one of the cables inside your computer while you were installing your module? A loose hard drive cable can prevent your computer from booting up properly. Make sure all the cables are firmly in their sockets.

Samsung First DDR4 Memory Module

Samsung has introduced its first DDR4 DRAM memory modules completed development of the industry’s first DDR4 DRAM module last month, using 30 nanometer (nm) class* process technology. The new chips are claimed to offer significant improvements to power efficiency and overall performance, and promise much higher transfer rates at much lower power consumption.

President, memory division, Samsung Electronics Dong Soo Jun,” said, “The new DDR4 DRAM will build even greater confidence in our cutting-edge green memory, particularly when we introduce four-gigabit (Gb) DDR4-based products using next generation process technology for mainstream application.” “Samsung has been actively supporting the IT industry with our green memory initiative by coming up with eco-friendly, innovative memory products providing higher performance and power efficiency every year”

The new modules can reportedly transfer data at the rate of upto 2.133Gbps at a voltage setting of 1.2V. The transfer rate apparently goes all the way up to 3.2Gbps on higher voltages. Compare this to the existing DDR3 and DDR2 modules which can transfer upto 1.6Gbps and 800Mbps at 1.3V or 1.5V settings. Samsung claims these modules will lead to a power consumption reduction of about 40% when compared to the 1.5V DDR3 modules. The module makes use of Pseudo Open Drain (POD), a new technology that has been adapted to high-performance graphic DRAM to allow DDR4 DRAM to consume just half the electric current of DDR3 when reading and writing data.

Samsung has been leading the advancement of DRAM technology ever since it developed the industry’s first DDR DRAM in 1997. In 2001, it introduced the first DDR2 DRAM, and in 2005, announced the first DDR3 DRAM using 80nm-class technology.

Samsung now plans to work closely with a number of server makers to help insure completion of JEDEC standardization of DDR4 technologies in the second half of this year.

India is Developing its Own Operating System

Indian government is busy developing its own Operating System for computers, along with anti virus softwares. The India government has focused on the said softwares owing to the continual attacks on government sites and loss of data.

A lower level operating system and application software may be preferred to the advanced versions, which necessarily require access to internet for upgrades. The new software could be deployed in key departments that have been under constant cyber attacks.

No sensitive information will be stored on systems connected to the internet, while ministries and departments have been told to carry out regular IT systems audits. The government has also established a Crisis Management Plan against cyber attacks to be implemented by all central ministries, state governments and critical sectors.

Earlier CDAC developed an OS called BOSS, short for Bharat Operating System Solutions. The Indian Government has also invested in developing the famous $10 laptop, the ISRO Bhuvan, and a $200 million microprocessor.

Collins America is introducing the CinemaView LCD Display with a Mini DisplayPort for Mac computers. The CinemaView is available in two different models, in 24-inch and 47-inch screen sizes with both models having a screen resolution of 1920×1080. The 24-inch model includes a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and 300cd/m2 brightness while the CinemaView 47-inch model features a 4000:1 contrast ratio and a 500cd/m2 brightness.

Some of you may remember when we reported on the IDVault, a device that kept all your passwords in one convenient USB thumb drive. It is also an extra level of security. In an age where everything is on the Net, someone could easily obtain our information with nothing more than a few passwords and numbers. The SmartSwipe was invented to insure that our credit card numbers would be safe. The SmartSwipe is a credit card reader that plugs right into the USB drive, and makes you look like a retail cashier. However, it is designed for those who shop online and will encrypt the credit card data before transmitting it to the computer. The whole story is, OEMs will be provided free copies of IE8 to pack themselves instead of other browser options, and consumers can accept up their own copies via CD, FTP, or retail channels. The undoubtedly in response to the antitrust cases the EU keeps throwing Microsoft’s way, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it end up on almost every European computer sold, we do surprise if this will at all speed up IE’s already quickly diminishing share in the war of web browsers.

Mac OS X vs Windows 7 – OS Updates

Microsoft and Apple are fighting for mindshare of the consumers as both companies are roll out to upgrade their operating systems at the end of this year.

Apple showed Worldwide Developers Conference by Snow Leopard on Monday, the next main version of Mac OS-X. Apple has been very open about the fact an under-the-hood maintenance release, focusing on performance enhancements to the OS.

Windows-7 is basically Microsoft’s maintenance release for Vista, which according to many accounts was a failure for the company. “It’s really doesn’t matter the degree of the rewrite in the operating system. “The key is the consumer benefit.”

In early testing of Windows-7 its to bear out improvements in the operating system, Microsoft is coming with a very bad consumer experience with Windows Vista. That is not a minor obstacle for it to overcome.

Microsoft will fight with the industry perception that Windows-7 is just Vista with a few fixes. Which lead to slower adoption of the new operating system out of the gate.

Mac OS-X Leopard was a solid release, filled with features. Overall, Leopard had comparatively few problems throughout its life cycle. Apple on the other hand is coming off one of the most successful operating system launches in the company’s history.

Apple doesn’t have to fight off to negative perception from its users/the industry. Macs have been selling better than ever and there is no sense in slowing down anytime soon.

Apple sells its new OS for $129. That’s a flat fee. Everyone gets the same version that contain all features and enhancements. However, Leopard users will be offered an upgrade to Snow Leopard for $29. Microsoft is releasing its upgrade pricing, but it is expected to be much higher.

“The OS war is on in a big way,” Charging $29 won’t win Apple any converts, but Microsoft is going to look really bad with its upgrade pricing.

It’s obvious that Microsoft has a much bigger channel to push Windows-7 to customers, but we’ve seen with the Vista release that doesn’t always mean success for an operating system.

Apple is coming from a strong position with Mac OS-X Leopard, so its newest Snow Leopard release should be very strong.

Apple’s Snow Leopard is expected to dispatch in September. Microsoft will release Windows-7 in October.

Google’s New Algorithm Knows when You’re Going to Quit Your Job

Google New Algorithm

Google developed an algorithm that notify them which employees are most likely to quit. That’s really interesting as-well-as fearful for employees.

What it does: Actually it’s a formula designed by Google team to let a machine essentially wriggle around inside your head to dig out your true intentions obviously regarding job — intentions you might not even realize you have yet—to reveal them to the company bean counters, who are basically machines themselves. Who can then take the Pre-Crime approach and shit you before you quit—if you were really going to quit at all.

Google developed this algorithm in response to its best employees bailing, so presumably at least some of the unhappy people would be wooed, not written off.

Today, a computer knows if you’re going to quit. Next, a computer calculates if you should be hired at all. Which is only a few generations removed from determining if all people shouldn’t be fired, but like, permanently? Wow! Artificially intelligence is here…..
