Hyundai India is going to unveil a new entry level car also referred as low-end this Diwali by the launch of Hyundai Eon. It has been hailed as the 21st century’s Maruti 800. Instead, Fiat actually tried to adapt the 500 to American tastes, and found that in doing so managed to make the 500 better overall; most of the changes for the U.S. model will soon show up in the Old World. Overall, the changes for the U.S. market added about 80 pounds to the 500, and this is where we would usually invoke Colin Chapman and grouse about how Fiat only has the Olive Garden to blame, but Fiat also chose to increase the power.

While base 500 models in Europe can go as low as 69 hp, the only U.S. option for now is a 1.4 MultiAir 4 cylinder, pumping 101 hp and 98 lb-ft of torque. Getting Americans to associate Fiat with consistent and cutting-edge engine technology would be a marketing accomplishment akin to a Details cover featuring the late Don Knotts. That said, Fiat engineers do share a cafeteria or two with Ferrari, and MultiAir qualifies as a real scientific achievement.

The system replaces the overhead camshaft controlling the intake valves with hydraulic controllers, which allow infinitely variable timing of the air coming into the pistons. That lets the engine’s computer to tailor combustion to the mood of the driver, getting out of the way at wide-open throttle while blipping the valves at other times for effectiveness. It’s quite trick, the engine head has a two-part casting, the oil in the hydraulics comes from the engine block and there’s a temperature sensor to get the oil at the right thickness.

As for the transmissions, the 500 launches with only a 5-speed stick shift; the 6-speed Aisin automatic ordered for us lazy Americans will come on line shortly. The deck comes stacked against the stick, a long-throw operation whose grasp on a preproduction model was as jumpy as a barista at quitting time. The 6 speed not only shifts smoother, it also responds to the invocation of a dash-button “Sport” mode at lower speeds. But it does come with a OPEC penalty; the hand-stirrer gets 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the automatic scores 27 mpg and 34 mpg.

The suspension of the 500 came in for a reworking as well; new bushings, springs, a rear torsion bar that’s three times stiffer than the Euro version. All this work makes the 500 endlessly fun around tight corners, with predictable amounts of understeer but no body lean. Acceleration sounds more fun than the actual results suggest, with decent pull below 40 mph and more restrained performance north of that. Its main flaw appears on washboard freeways, where the short wheelbase simply can’t soak up sharp sine waves. It’s not as aggressive or as powerful as the Mini, but it’s more livable.

Where Fiat scores its most style points is on the inside, where its combination of attractive, body-colored plastics and retro design make the Mini seem like its interiors be crafted by Fisher-Price. There’s a small number of changes for the U.S. market; the optional leather-coated seats have been bolstered for those who don’t pay money for skinny jeans, and the center cupholder can hold a Super Big Gulp, a.k.a. Cinquecento espressos. The dash and upright view make the 500′s cabin a pleasant place to spend time, although trying to look over your shoulder at other traffic reveals a Big Gulp-sized blind spot.

The inside also incudes seven airbags turn a crashing 500 into a bouncy castle. The chassis received stiffening and a few extra parts to meet U.S. crash standards, sufficient so that a 500 that had gone through a 40-mph offset test could simply open and close its doors.

The other place where Fiat plans to tackle the Mini is on sticker price. The 500 starts at $15,500, and its 3 levels top out at $19,500; with add-ons and colors, Fiat can build 500,000 different combinations. By Fiat’s reckoning, a comparably equipped 500 should undercut a similar Mini by $4,000. It’s even less than $1,000 away from a Toyota Yaris.

So although the 500 won’t outrun the Mini today, that may alter in the 1st quarter of 2012 when the 500 Abarth arrives hauling a turbo 1.4-liter MultiAir engine that could produce between 140 hp and 170 hp. A “cabrio” version will pop up at this year’s New York Auto Show, and the battery-powered 500 will lug into dealers toward the end of next year.

Fiat’s counting on Americans embracing small cars so much that the total insist for diminutive vehicles doubles by 2016. That seems optimistic not present a big boost in gas prices, and Fiat is selling style in a country that values size in its cars above all else. “If there’s one thing we want you to know,” said the executives launching the 2011 Chrysler 300 sedan, “it’s that this is an all-new vehicle.” It’s not, but it is better.

When the revived Chrysler 300 sedan came out in 2004, banishing the front-drive imposter to the company’s mainly historic brand, it hit as lots of sweet spots as “Shampoo”-era Warren Beatty. It wasn’t just the rear-wheel-drive, the Hemi V8 or the Mercedes-influenced suspension; it was the styling a modern take on a Bentley hot-rod that looked huge driving to the opera or mowing down gunmen inside Liberty City. Before Jay-Z dropped his jerseys for Armani, the 300 made the elegant tough and gangsters elegant.

But after a small number of great years, the 300 and the rest of Chrysler fell to the dogs of hell — Cerberus Capital. Now, in the Fiat era, so much of what’s new concerning the 300 comes two years after it should have arrived, but to Chrysler’s credit the reworking does go beyond basically turning in late homework. It’s still the old platform, but with each part redone, reused or recycled into something different.

There was a stab at weight loss; the hood is now aluminum, and the base model clocks in a small number of pounds below 4,000. There’s new steel underneath, including sound-deadening panels and bolstered security good enough for the requisite insurance industry “top pick.” The bad tires have left back to China. And then there’s the exterior styling, which shares nothing with the previous generation for better and worse.

It’s never simple to follow a truly great car design, and Chrysler’s designers bravely attempted further than a nip-n-tuck. The front headlamp of the 300 and other Chryslers is now supposed to resemble the eye of a bald eagle; the grille ditches Bentley for an Audi-esque profile, the sides get sculpted and there’s yet a vestigial ridge on the trunk harkening back to Virgil Exner’s 1957 tail fins. It unmoving looks distinctive, but the chrome accidents add unwelcome bling, and the entire hangs together about as simply as a Fugees reunion.

Inside, the improvements commence at the top. While the windshield gained a degree or two of rake in the redesign, Chrysler also lowered the belt line and raised the top edging of the glass, boosting visibility. The IP has a blue-chrome Tron feel, and the crown of the dash merges nicely with the new corporate touchscreen system, which isn’t as confusing as the industry average.

Yet under the dash equator, things don’t work as well. I suppose the world has decided sham wood is still acceptable, but just because “Matlock” comes on in reruns doesn’t mean I’ll ever watch it. The seats keep their throne-like comfort at the expense of some bolstering, and rear passengers still have ample room, even if Chrysler isn’t bringing back the long-wheelbase version yet or directly targeting the limousine crowd next the imminent demise of the Lincoln Town Car.

The best of the 300 still comes with the 300C and its 5.7-liter Hemi. Chrysler blocked building rockets for NASA in the 1970s, but the 300C does a joyful impersonation of a Saturn V in a straight line, hitting 60 mph just a only some tics after 5 seconds and extra-legal speeds speedily thereafter. After several decades in business, Chrysler has garnered more second probability than Charlie Sheen, but the last brush with conclusion was its most severe. Getting back to business means making every model aggressive after years of neglect, and the 2011 300 meets that object and then some. It’s not the clear style leader, and without that the 300 suffers from a small identity crisis among other luxury huge sedans. But there’s now time to think about what’s next, and we’d politely offer one idea of a direction: When even NASA can’t build its own rockets now, maybe Chrysler can again.

Another Tata Nano Fire Accident

See the picture and you can actually imagine the fact a new Tata Nano caught in fire.

Silver color Tata Nano No. = MH03-AW 913, with A/C and a power steering features, probably one of the top Nano model of worth 2.4 Lakh rupees burst on Express Express Highway at 3:45 pm on Monday, 22nd March’10.

Mr. Satish Sawant, an insurance agent, collected his brand new Nano car from Prabhadevi showroom and only after 45 mins, he saved himself from this accident when a motorcyclist told him about fire. Satish & his driver both jumped out the car.

This is not the 1st time, Nano is burning. Already 2-3 Nano cars have been burst. There are no comments from Ratan Tata yet but we hope to hear very soon from him or his team.

Now the questions arises:

What about people safety?
Is money less important than human’s life?

No doubt, we all are happy with cheapest car model produce in India but these types of accidents creating big questions on the reliability of Nano. What do you think people, share your views.

BMW Smallest Car – Auto Expo 2010

With as many as 67 Vintage cars and bikes, BMW new car is the smaller and seductive small car than Nano. This BMW is certainly smaller than the Nano. While the Nano is 3.1m long and 1.6m wide, this egg-shaped car made 55 years ago was around 2.29m in length and 1.37m in width. With a 298-cc rear engine, it has its entry and exit at the front.

Audi New Rocking 2011 R8 Spyder (V10)

Audi is getting ready to announce their 2011 R8 Spyder either at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show or the LA Auto Show in December. The 2011 Audi R8 Spyder comes with a 5.2-liter V10 engine which produces the power of 525 hp, with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional R-tronic automated transmission. Audi may be added their 4.2-liter V8 engine version later but at start it’s just a V10 version.

No pricing information was announced.

Basically there are 4 types of models BSII, BSIII and CX & LX. The cost of the Nano is depending on the combination of above defined models. The ex-showroom prizes are starts from Rs.1,00,000 to 1,73,644 Rs. (depend on your location), however the booking amount starts from Rs. 95,000 to 1,40,000.

You can book Nano offline by visiting outlets & online by visiting the site & filling the form. The online cost will be 200/- & the offline cost will be 300/- Rs. per application form. First 1,00,000 allotment will be issued by choosing the random numbers and rest will get their refund after 90 days or may be earlier depending on the selection of options. Mercedes-Benz: SPLITVIEW COMMAND system

Another technology, a very similar system from Delphi in action at CES last year — but Mercedes-Benz’s new SPLITVIEW COMMAND system appears to be one of the first instances of it being used in a production vehicle, and that certainly counts for something. From the looks of it, the system is very similar to the Delphi one, with the 8-inch display able to let the driver keep an eye on the GPS while the passenger simultaneously watches a DVD or something equally distracting on the very same screen.

Mercedes Benz: Splitview Command System

Process: That’s done with the use of a special filter that masks the display and only lets the proper pixels slip into view depending on where you are seated. No word on what sort of premium the system will demand, if any, but it’ll actually be available on all S-Class models starting in the summer of 2009.
